I get asked a lot on Instagram how I get my hair to look thicker. So I thought I’d do a whole post on some tips on making your hair look thicker than it really is!
Color: If you have thinner hair (or even if you don’t) I always think when you have dimension in your hair, it makes it look thicker even if the dimension is very subtle (it doesn’t always have to be highlights!) If you feel like you hair can use a boost in thickness, try adding some dimension next time you get your hair colored!
Volume: Volume always helps if you’re looking to add thickness. This DOESN’T mean you should tease your hair, unless you’re into that (which is totally cool!). I suggest using a volumizing shampoo for starters, and try to blow dry your hair upside down, focusing at the roots. Also, less product = less weight = more volume, so try to use a lighter hand when applying things like oils and texturizing spray to your strands.
Keep Your Hair Clean: I’ve noticed, especially since my hair is darker, that when my hair is clean it looks thicker. If it’s getting greasy, it tends to stick to my head and look my hair look flat. I do love to use dry shampoo so I don’t have to wash my hair everyday, but when my hair is clean it definitely looks much thicker, and better in general.
Pull Out Your Braids To Make Them Look Thicker: I always get asked how I make my braids look really thick and chunky, and this is my number one tip! Always, always, always pull out your braids if you want your hair to look thicker! It seriously works like a DREAM.0
